JON UNDERWOOD is delighted with how solid the Rebels have been defensively since the start to the National League South season.

Slough have conceded just seven goals in eight league matches and kept two clean sheets, including in the 1-0 win at Chelmsford City on Saturday.

Underwood told the Observer: “I would like a few more points on the board but we’ re in touch with the sides above us in the play-off picture.

“The league is bunched up at the moment so I’m not reading too much into it “It’s very early days and I ‘m relatively pleased with our performances over the eight games.

“I’m more pleased with how solid we’ve been. We’re more solid defensively which is really pleasing as we have gone up this season.

“The flip side is we’ve not been scoring goals as freely as we were last season. That’s an area we targeted to improve with the signing of Matt Stevens.

“We want to have more of a cutting edge and be more ruthless in the final third.”
