MICK Woodham has admitted his Windsor FC side suffered a hangover after losing their FA Vase quarter final to eventual runners-up Stockton Town.

Windsor were just two ties from Wembley when they were beaten 2-0 in late February by a side which fell to Thatcham Town two weeks ago.

And while Windsor hammered Woodley United 5-0 just two days later, they then embarked on a run of just one Hellenic League win in six alongside exits from three further cup competitions.

And reflecting on the season, Woodham said: “We were trying to dismiss and fight the Stockton defeat and walked into the Woodley match the Monday after and walloped them 5-0.

“We felt then we would be okay, but we did have a dip and we had player unavailability issues and injuries.

“ It was perhaps no different to any other team, but for us the momentum certainly was lost for six matches – possibly through no-one’s fault.

"The harder we tried the harder it became and on the face of that it was disappointing, but once we sorted ourselves out we finished the season reasonably strong thankfully.”

Windsor finished eighth in the Premier Division and Woodham admitted they will need to improve next season.

He commented: “We had a period after the Stockton Town defeat where we were getting picked off at home and away – the results were indifferent.

“Thankfully our run of nine wins in November and October gave us the backbone of our points total.

“When you think we finished with 52 points, thankfully we did put a run together to stack up our points, as it could have been a lot worse.”
