THE Windsor Boys’ School rounded off the winter rowing season in impressive form at the prestigious Schools Head of the River Race and the Junior Sculling Head.

The former is raced over the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race course and distance and attracts some 400 crews from all over the country.

In the junior 18 quad sculls event, junior and world silver medallist Bryn Ellery was joined by Isaac Workman, Tom Shewell and Sam Bodkin.

The crew maintained a good rhythm and looked powerful over the 7,000m course to finish in second place behind rivals Maidenhead.

Windsor showed its versatility by entering the Schools first VIII category for sweep-oared boats.

Although beset by injury, illness and last-minute substitutions, the crew finished in an impressive ninth position.

The Junior Sculling Head is held at Dorney Lake and the race takes place over two lengths of the 2,000m course.

Once again, the J18 crew turned in a classy performance to claim the silver medal behind Maidenhead.

However, the youngsters laid down a marker for the future in the J14 events.

In the octuple skulls they finished fifth out of 57 crews and in the J14 C quads category Windsor picked up gold, silver and bronze medals.

Mark Wilkinson is Director of Rowing at Windsor Boys School. He said: “This is a fitting reward for the boys after all their hard training over the winter months.

“The prospects for the summer are very exciting.”
