BRITWELL have reached the final of the Norfolkians Junior Cup this season after a 4-2 win at Stoke Poges Saints Reserves on Saturday.

Britwell fell a goal behind in the semi-final tie at the Bells Hill Recreation Ground but recovered to win thanks to goals from Dan Molloy, Dan Sears, James Betts and Ryan Smith.

The East Berkshire Football League Division One club will play either Reading YMCA Rockets or Windsor Great Park in the final at York Road on April 20.

Britwell manager John Brennan told the Observer: “We had beaten stronger teams in the previous rounds. I don’t want to sound boastful but I thought we were too good for them.

“Stoke Poges went a goal ahead and were competing on an atrocious pitch, but we soon found our stride and went on to dominate the game.

“We had a number of chances cleared off the line and some contentious decisions that didn’t go our way, so it could have been more decisive.”

Looking ahead to the final, he added: “I envisage it will be Windsor Great Park but the Reading sides are always strong.

“It will be a nice end to the season but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that we could not go further in other competitions.”

Britwell are currently in third position in Division One, six points behind Signcraft but with three matches in hand on the league leaders.

Britwell welcome second placed Richings Park Reserves to Long Furlong Drive this Saturday (2pm).

Brennan said: “The title is in our hands if we win all our games. I would be lying if I said we were not the favourites to win it.

“It will be a tough game on Saturday because Richings Park are a big side and good at set pieces, but it’d nothing we can’t cope with so long as everyone turns up.”
