LANGLEY Galaxy manager Scott Bright has admitted his side gave Real Milan too much respect in their 4-2 defeat on Sunday.

Bright believes Langley are capable of competing with the best in Division One this season and he has set his sights on a top-three finish.

Langley had their chances for a surprise win at Harvey Park, but a brace from Gary Ashton was not enough to stun the defending champions.

Bright told the Observer: “We were coming into the match on the back of a good performance against Bentons the week before. That showed us you have to be at your best to beat the top two, but it proved that we could mix it with the big boys.

“We had injuries in the team on Sunday but believed we could have got a result, so the boys are pretty disappointed with the way they went about it.

“We started well but then sat off Real Milan and gave them too much respect. We had chances to get a result but blew it. They’re a very good side and you have to be at your best to win.

“Real Milan have played in this league for a long time and though they scored four goals they didn’t have any more chances.

“They were the better side but we thought we could get a result, and we had a real chance. I believe it was the right result, but we will learn from these games just as much as the ones we win.”

The defeat leaves Langley in fifth position in the league table with Bright keen to build on whatever is achieved this season.

He said: “At the start of the season we thought we would have a chance of winning the league, and we’ve proved we can mix it with the best, but you have to be at your best against the top sides.

“I would be pretty disappointed if we are not in the top three because we’re good enough. We will take it one game at a time, see where it takes us and try to build on that next year.

“We are a bit of a cup side so I’m hoping we can go as far as we can and win some silverware.”
