CHALVEY Sports will play their first-ever match at Arbour Park on Saturday after agreeing a deal with Slough Borough Council to move into the multi-million pound facility in Stoke Road.

Sports won Hellenic Division Two East last season but were denied promotion due to ground grading issues at their former home, the Chalvey Recreation Ground.

However, the club has gone from strength to strength since moving from the East Berkshire Football League and Chairman Scott Young and his backroom team continue to show an ambition to move forward.

Chalvey will host Chinnor Reserves at Arbour Park in a league fixture at Arbour Park this Saturday (3pm) after a 1-1 draw with Penn & Tylers Green last weekend.

Young admits Sports will accept a point after their sub-standard performance in the 1-1 draw.

Chalvey recovered from falling a goal behind to draw 1-1 thanks to a late equaliser from Bryan Taylor on Saturday.

Young believes the difficult conditions effected the match at the Chalvey Recreation Ground, but he knows they will have to improve in order to climb the table.

Speaking to the Observer, the Chalvey Chairman said: “It was a tough game for us. We did not play anywhere near as well as we could have done in very strong winds that didn’t help.

“It was a bit of a scrappy match and the wind ruined what could have been a better game of football. Both keepers struggled to clear halfway when kicking with the wind against them.

“When Penn took the lead with about 30 minutes left it didn’t look like we would get anything out of the game.

“We equalised through Bryan and up to that point were looking a bit more likely. We created a couple of chances and had the wind against us when we scored.”

Young added: “We were very happy with the draw at the end because we didn’t look like we were playing well enough to get it.

“There are certainly two ways of looking at it and our guys will say it’s a point gained. That sounds like a cliche but it’s true.

“Taking the three points was our aim because it was a league game but, with a late equaliser, you’ve got to be happy to get a draw.

“A draw is a draw but we have a lot more tough games coming up so we’ve got to show more to keep on progressing.”

The points leaves the defending Hellenic Division Two East champions in fifth position in the league table with at least two games in hand on the sides above them.

Chalvey host second from bottom Chinnor Reserves this Saturday (3pm) and Young is expecting another tough match.

He said: “We don’t know much about them because we’ve not played them before, they will be a new entity to us.

“Chinnor are well established in the Hellenic League and have very good players in their first team and reserves, so we will expect another tough match.

We never take opposition lightly, we never have done and never will, so we know it will be another difficult game for us.”
