CHALVEY Sports have made the perfect start to the defence of their Hellenic Division Two East title after a 5-0 home win against Virginia Water Reserves on Saturday.

Following their opening day victory at Thame Rangers Development, Chalvey made it two from two thanks to goals from Ryan Hazell, Aydn Comber, Richard Jefrrey, Liam Nash and Kyle Rochford.

Sports Chairman Scott Young told the Observer: “It was a game of two halves really. We were one-up at half-time but just going through the motions.

“I don’t know what the manager said to the players at half-time but something clicked and Virginia Water could not live with us and we scored another four goals.”

He added: “We still have to play a few more teams new to the league, so there could be a problem there, and there’s still work to do, but it’s been a really good start and I know the manager is happy.

“It just couldn’t get any better. The players are all on board and it’s a good start to the defence of our title.”

Chalvey turn their attention towards the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and a first round tie away to Berks County on September 16.

Young commented: "We've only played them in friendlies before but know they've massively improved in the last couple of years. It will be a tough game and we will go there expecting a battle.

"The focus has to be on defending the title but last year we wanted to go on a cup run as well. We would like a good day out on top of hopefully another successful league campaign."
