PATRICK Mattar and his Stoke Park PGA Professional Stuart Collier embark on a bid to qualify for the Lombard Trophy final when they tee up in a regional event at Walton Heath Golf Club on July 18.

It is one of 14 qualifying events for the £80,000 tournament which for the winners culminates in a 36-hole final at the Pestana Vila Sol Golf & Hotel resort in Portugal in September.

Mattar landed a shot a qualifying for the grand final when he won his club qualifying competition with a nett score of 65.

Lombard, the UK’s largest asset finance provider, has enjoyed a long association with the event, helping make it the biggest pro-am in Europe, attracting entries from upwards of 700 clubs across Great Britain and Ireland.

Mattar, 43, lives in London. He has been playing golf for 15 years and plays off a handicap of nine.

Collier, 44, has been a professional at Stoke Park for 17 years.

PGA pros play an important role in the success of golf clubs, using their expertise and knowledge to benefit all aspects of a club’s business.

Iver Golf Club star Dennis Green won the NAPCC qualifier with a score of 32 points. Dennis Halford (31) was second and Harjinder Dhardwar (29) cam third.

Green and Dhardwar gave a good account of themselves last year and will be looking to do the same again.

Iver Vets enjoyed an away day at Farnham Park and Ken Stone took first prize with 36 points.

Tina Thomas and Keith Sawtell shot 34 points but Thomas came out on top after countback. Sawtell gained consolation winning the nearest the pin trophy.

In the Daily Mail foursomes, Richard Frewin and Len Mayor bowed out in the third round, going down 3&2 at Datchet.
