Beer festival marks last orders for pub

GLASSES were raised at a pub's first and last ever beer festival as the hostelry edges towards closing down.
The Bricklayers Arms, in Hatch Lane, Windsor, has been bought by Royal Borough councillor Tom Burnsall and is due to close on Sunday, September 9.
More than 200 people enjoyed the festivities on Saturday and Sunday as regulars and Campaign for Real Ale members came together to celebrate the pub.
Martin Higgins, landlord, said: "We had organised it all before we knew we were closing down so we thought it would be a good opportunity to now do it as our leaving do."
Visitors were upset by the closure - the third pub in the area to shut in the past 18 months.
David Smith, who attended the festival, said: "In this day and age, when people are worried about binge drinking, pubs offer a controlled and responsible environment in which communities can come together."
Cllr Burnsall intends to build luxury houses on the site.
