New kayak business is no damp squib
A NEW venture by two Windsor businessmen is providing a unique view of the town from the River Thames.
Neil Freeman and David Ford launched Canoe and Kayak Tours in May and despite the poor weather throughout May and June, the pair have had a successful first three months in business.
Trips onto the Thames have been held for people celebrating hen parties, honeymoons and birthdays and the duo have no regrets after embarking on a new challenge in the middle of a recession.
Mr Freeman, 53, said: "Unfortunately the rain has held us up a bit, but we have found ways round the dip in tourist numbers by working with community groups. We have organised fun trips onto the river for schools, cubs and scouts."
The company, in Tom Jones Boatyard in Romney Lock, was registered in January and the first customers were a hen party in May.
Mr Freeman hopes they will be able to move the business to a base in the town centre.
He added: "To be honest we have been very surprised with the positive response we have had. People from as far as Southampton and the midlands have been in contact to book tours.
"There are a lot of companies who offer tours of the town, but not that many who do it from the river and in such an interactive way.
"We play a lot of games on the river, have a bit of fun and organise bars and restaurants for the party to move onto after once they have dried off."
