ORGANISERS of tomorrow's Windsor Triathlon have had to cancel the swimming section for the first time in 22 years.

With rising water levels in the River Thames and more rainfall expected in the river's catchment area Human Race Event Management acted on the advice of the Environment Agency this morning.

A statement on the event website said: "Clearly, we have not made this decision lightly, but the safety of our competitors is paramount. We know you will be disappointed not to be able to swim in the river as part of this triathlon."

The event will become a duathlon with a 1,000m run replacing the swim section.

The starting point, originally in Alexandra Gardens, has now been moved to the arches in Windsor Leisure Centre car park, off Stovell Road.

The start times remain the same.
