A RAPIST who walked free for 26 years has been sentenced to eight years in prison today (Friday).
Alexander McGuire, of Greyhound View, Sandy Lane, Bedfordshire, pleaded guilty at Reading Crown Court last month to the rape of a woman in McDonald's, Thames Street, Windsor on November 25, 1986.
He appeared at the same court for sentencing today.
Baljit Ubhey OBE, chief crown prosecutor of Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said: "This case highlights the commitment of the police and CPS to prosecute cases involving violence against women.
"Today's outcome also demonstrates to people who commit such offences that they are never safe from justice and that our determination to ensure that justice is done remains undimmed, even years after offences are committed."
McGuire had been found not guilty by a jury in 1987, but new evidence gathered by police prompted them to present a case to CPS to quash the original verdict and bring a new case to trial.
