RESIDENTS and councillors have teamed up to adopt their street to keep it clean, safe and attractive.
Sawyers Close, in Dedworth, has been adopted by the people who know it best in a voluntary scheme run the by the Royal Borough.
The Sawyers Close Residents' Association was provided with high-visibility jackets and litter pickers and will now take on more responsibility for keeping the street clean and safe.
A litter pick was carried out on Friday last week and Carol McCall, chairwoman of the Residents' Association, believes the greater responsibility and equipment will help encourage youngsters to get involved. She said: "We have wanted to have a litter pick and adopt our street for a while now and the day went well. We had a good turn out with a lot of children helping and I think they really enjoyed it.
Next on the Association's agenda is planning a Diamond Jubilee street party for Sunday, June 3.
Carol added: "There is going to be a lot happening in the town on the Saturday so we plumped for the Sunday. It is going to be Mad Hatter-themed tea party followed a by a hog roast and barbecue!"
