Datchet Mini-Mart loses drinks licence

A MINI-MARKET in Datchet has had its premises licence revoked by the council for selling alcohol to two 15-year-old girls.
The shop was caught selling the alcohol after Thames Valley Police carried out a purchase test on the mini-mart.
Father and son owners, Nirmal Singh Gill and Ramandeep Gill, were notified by letter after failing to turn up at the licencing committee hearing at Maidenhead Town Hall on Monday, February 6.
The review, which was brought by Thames Valley Police, found that the Mini Mart, in Unit 3, Connection House, Datchet, had failed to manage itself correctly in ensuring that there was no public disorder or protecting children from harm.
Datchet Mini Mart had previously had it's licence taken away in October 2009 after another son, Sundeep. was caught selling alcohol to children.
However, the council decided to restore the premises licence in January 2010, with Ramandeep taking over the responsibility for ensuring guidelines were followed.
The sub-licencing committee decided there was enough evidence to hear the case without any representation from the Gill family.
In making the decision, the sub-committee said that it had to follow national guidance, as well as the council's own licensing policy.
The Gill family has up to three weeks to appeal against this decision to the Magistrates Court, meaning that they can continue to sell alcohol to customers while the appeal process is ongoing.
