POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a bottle attack in St Leonard's Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 23-year-old man was confronted by four Asian men who pulled up beside him in a dark saloon car, possibly a BMW, at around 3.30am.

A bottle was used in the attack and the man sustained a serious face injury, leaving him lying on the pavement before he was found by a taxi driver.

The victim was taken to Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital for specialist treatment to his eye and was discharged on Tuesday.

The man who cut the victim is around 5ft 10ins tall and slim with short neat hair. He was wearing white trainers and a grey T-shirt. The attackers spoke in a 'street' style.

Det Sgt Ash Mohmood said: "This appears to be an unprovoked attack of a very nasty nature. This assault has left this man with potentially life-changing injuries."

Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Mohmood on 101 and quote URN 287 of 29/01/12.. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
