The meeting, held by Datchet Parish Council, at the Village Hall in Allen Way on Wednesday last week, was attended by 120 people.
It is hoped that the work will be completed in time for the Olympic Games and The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in a bid to attract river tourists to the village.
Cllr Ian Thompson, joined by Jeff French, partner in Windsor-based river cruise company French Brothers, explained the plans to the public.
They intend to repair the two jetties at Datchet Wharf and build a third, believed to be for the mooring of pleasure cruises.
However, Cllr Thompson denied the claims and said the plans will be made clearer before going in front of the council.
He said: "The will be no mooring at the third jetty for big boats. We made that crystal clear, it won't have mooring.
"The plan from here is how we describe what we're doing to the public. It was a well-attended meeting but we have got mixed views relevant to the third jetty. It will be discussed after the budget has gone though."
Datchet Village Society (DVS), who oppose the building of a third jetty, welcomed the meeting as a first chance to hear all the information.
DVS secretary Marjorie Claspers said: "The conservation area is one that we want to protect. It's not that we don't want the boats or mooring, we just don't want it there.
"We're in favour of improvements and we would welcome the restoration."
