AN INTERACTIVE history of Windsor has been given the green light after £249,000 of Heritage Lottery funding was secured for the Windsor And Royal Borough Museum.

The museum, in Windsor Guildhall, was officially opened last month by The Queen and the money will fund a new project, Beyond The Castle Walls - The Story Of Windsor And The Guildhall, featuring a series of learning 'journeys' for adults and children.

Content for the project will be produced, in part, by the public who are being encouraged to submit audio and video stories and personal memories of important, local events.

Councillor Simon Dudley, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "I am delighted to hear that our bid has been successful and would like to thank everyone who contributed to securing the funds, including MP for Windsor Adam Afriyie.

"The project will offer new opportunities for residents and visitors to discover, enjoy and connect with the area's history."

Stuart McLeod, head of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: "This project will see the newly-opened museum come alive by offering a rich variety of learning activities and events, providing opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in their history."

The project, to be launched in the spring and planned to run until the end of 2014, will feature an audio tour, a 360-degree film presentation of the buildings history and an exhibition involving heritage groups and schools.
