A SLOUGH-BASED dentist has risked his life providing vital aid to victims of the Pakistan floods.

Zahid Shah was on his annual trip home, marking his father's death, at the beginning of August when the worst floods in memory struck, killing more than 1,600 people and leaving five million homeless and 17m affected.

Seeing the devastation the 50-year-old immediately postponed his return trip for a week and called an old friend, a general in the Pakistan Army, and asked how he could offer help.

Over the next two days, using the mosque and school that his father built in Sargodha as a base and its 1,400 pupils to pack bags of essential food such as rice, flour and tea, Dr Shah and his team prepared 2,500 meals that were handed out before they left for two cut-off villages 90 miles north.
