AN entrepreneur from Windsor has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Joanna Chin, of High Street, Windsor is one of 12 finalists in the NatWest everywoman Awards for the most inspiring entrepreneur between the ages of 36 and 49.

The 48-year-old, is the joint owner of health and care advertising agency Langland, which boasts 59 permanent staff, an annual turnover of £8m and profit margins that continue to outperform the sector.

She said: "I do believe that women often have to juggle more in their every day life, but that we have a natural capacity to do so. My mother was a great inspiration to me, balancing full time work with bringing up five children and undertaking further education, and I think it is important to have such role models who can encourage others to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams."

At the age of 24, Mrs Chin was a field director for a market research company, responsible for more than 600 staff across the UK, but left the profession to concentrate on bringing up her twins.

After three years as a full-time mum, her life took a turn when her husband unexpectedly lost his job. The pair decided to jointly set up their own agency and within four days of the decision had an office and after hastily putting together a business plan and buying a limited company secured a £40,000 bank loan, putting their house up for equity.

With almost immediate business success, the loan was paid off within four months and the company has seen steady growth ever since.

The awards in their seventh year have been designed to recognise the phenomenal success of the UK's most inspirational female business owners.

Carolyn Currie, Head of women in business, NatWest, said: "The everywoman finalists have really made their mark in the business world and will inspire many more women to follow suit and realise their business potential."
