A SPATE of car break-ins has hit motorists across the Royal Borough.
Thieves have smashed car windows and popped door locks to snatch items ranging from laptop computers to tubes of sweets.
Police are stepping up patrols and urging residents to be extra vigilant in a bid to stem the alarming increase in car crime.
Dozens of cars were targeted last weekend in areas including Clewer, Dedworth, Datchet, Eton and central Windsor.
Around 12 cars, mostly Volkswagens, were broken into around St Leonard's Road, Victor Road and Bolton Road area in one night alone.
A number of locks were popped without the perpetrators gaining access but thieves did make off with items including headphones, £5 in loose change, a CD player, aftershave and sweets.
More similar crimes were reported in the same area on Monday night and one incident happened in Trinity Place at 9am.
The police believe it is likely to be two or three groups of people operating with their own methods of breaking in.
