A NO-NONSENSE stance is being taken by police dealing with a group of children caught wrecking a children's play area.

Letters have been sent to the kids as young as 10-years-old by the Dedworth Neighbourhood Police team explaining that their actions were unacceptable.

A meeting is also scheduled for next week in which police will warn the youngsters to stay out of trouble.

Windsor Neighbourhood Inspector Pete Dalton said: "Osgood Park has been a hotspot for anti-social behaviour for a number of weeks now. We have been investigating this incident rigorously and have now identified a number of young subjects.

"Those people have committed criminal damage and it's not acceptable."

He went onto say that because the children were so young the police would work closely with the Young Offenders team to deal with the incident.

The Royal Borough Observer exclusively revealed a group of six youngsters caught on camera by a dog walker tearing up and hurling newly-laid turf at each other in the park on October 17. However, one mum whose son was involved, says she is angry that her boy is being labelled as a yob.

She said: "There are kids who are always causing trouble in the park. I don't want him lumped in with them.

"I am happy to co-operate with the police and contacted them to ask if we could arrange to have a private meeting - but I haven't even heard back from anyone.

"My son can't even play in the park any more because there are kids down there who are still causing trouble and he doesn't want to get involved. For me the matter is closed."

Repairs costing £1,300 got under way this week and were expected to last between seven and 10 days.

The council also plan to put up signs re-iterating the point that the play area was built to cater for young children.
