GENEROUS readers are being called upon to support the Observer's annual Toy Appeal.

Brand new gifts can be donated to give to children who may face difficult family circumstances this Christmas, with gifts needed for young children right up to teenagers.

Organisations including social services in Slough, the Royal Borough and South Bucks benefit from the gifts, as well as East Berkshire Women's Aid which helps women and children flee from domestic violence situations.

Each year the generosity of our readers increases and scores of children have a brighter Christmas thanks to the donations.

Marian Smalley, of Royal Borough Social Services, is delighted to be receiving support again this year.

She said: "We have been involved for years and it has been really helpful, it has really made a difference to children. They are delighted and sometimes with some of the families they don't get much else. There are always other people who have got less so please support the appeal this year."

Lyn Marshall, of Slough Social Services, said: "It really makes a difference. We have got children in need in Slough whose families don't have the finances to buy for them. It gives them a much happier Christmas once they receive the gifts. People were so generous last year and it spread a lot of happiness."

Gifts can be left unwrapped at various drop off points including the Observer offices in Upton Court, Datchet Road, Slough, at the Big Shop at Legoland in Windsor, and at the Information Centre in Royal Windsor station.

Companies who want to donate gifts or whose staff will each donate, can contact reporter Ruth Moulden on 01753 627225.
