LOVE was on the menu as one lucky lady got a special treat when her long-term partner popped the question at an annual dinner party.

Rosemary Vigus was enjoying a meal with her partner Roger Sinclair at Windsor Guildhall with more than 100 guests when the 51-year-old asked for her hand in marriage.

The event was for the Windsor, Eton & District Royal Warrant Holders Association and president Mr Sinclair took the spotlight on Friday to give his after dinner speech, which ended with a heart-warming marriage proposal.

He said: "We have been together for 25 years so I thought it was about time. I thought it was an appropriate place to voice my feelings for Rosemary. Everyone was surprised because of the story I put behind it and a round of applause astounded.

"I said to Rosemary I got her father's approval. He died of cancer 10 years ago, but unknown to anyone apart from me and him I asked if the occasion arose would he give approval and he couldn't speak at the time, but he nodded yes."

Miss Vigus, said: "I was quite shocked it totally floored me it is quite out of character for him. It was the last thing I was expecting after 25 years.

"I text family and friends and they said typical trust him, he is the sort who will think of a different way and do it."

The couple met as youngsters, but went their separate ways. It was only when their paths crossed again many years later that love blossomed for the pair.

Mr Sinclair, said: "We originally meet when Rosemary's parents had a Post Office in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire, she used to work in the post office and I used it, but it was along while after that before we got together. It was when our paths crossed again later on in life when we were both living in Hertford that we got together."
