A BOROUGH-wide consultation is giving everyone the chance to help the council plan for the future.

Employment, shops, education, leisure and health facilities will be covered by the new Local Development Framework (LDF) and the council is calling on residents to get involved in shaping key plans for the next 20 years.

Cllr Alison Knight, lead member for planning and development, said: "The government has given us tough housing targets to meet over the next few years and the council's vehement protests against these have fallen on deaf ears. This means we face real challenges in protecting the borough's special character while trying to achieve the widest possible benefits to the people who live and work here.

"The council attaches a high priority to safeguarding the Green Belt and we are even looking at new areas to include - so we need to be innovative and creative in our approach to future development.

That's why it is so important for our residents to be involved in this crucial stage of planning for the borough's future."

The consultation outlines three potential options for housing and employment density. The three options - for higher, moderate and lower density growth - all encourage development in towns and larger villages outside the Green Belt.

Cllr Knight added: "I want to encourage people to read the consultation leaflet that is being delivered to every local home."

The document is available online at www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/pp_ldf. The closing date for responses is Monday 20 April.

Drop-in sessions are being held at Sunningdale Village Hall in Church Road, Sunningdale on Monday, 23 March, from 12.30pm to 5pm, the Town Hall in Maidenhead on Tuesday, 24 March, from 10am to 4pm and Windsor Guildhall in Windsor High Street on Wednesday, 25 March, from 12.30pm to 5pm.
