The freezing weather is due to make a shock comeback this weekend - and emergency measures are already being put in place to safeguard the most vulnerable.

Slough Borough Council decided yesterday to activate its cold weather provision until Monday when it will be reviewed. The Royal Borough is due to make a decision today about reactivating the emergency measures it introduced during the last cold spell two weeks ago.

Slough Borough Council is issuing advice to residents following the cold weather alert from the Met Office.

A level three alert, indicating a 90 per cent probability of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow is in place in the south east from today (Friday) until Tuesday.

Anyone in Slough who thinks they may need emergency shelter is asked to go to MyCouncil at Landmark Place, High Street after 9am.

A special helpline called StreetLink is available for rough sleepers and members of the public who wish to report someone sleeping rough.

The borough is also advising people to heat their homes to at least 18°C (65°F) or warmer in the main room and to keep bedroom windows closed, while keeping stocked up on tinned and frozen foods so they do not have to go out too much when it’s cold or icy.
