Creating a world without language barriers was the theme when members of Slough, Windsor and Eton International Soroptimists met for their annual lunch at Dorney Lake.

Guest speaker was Sue Fortescue, the volunteer manager with Translators Without Borders - a charity whose aim is to create a world where there are no language barriers.

The organisation has over 3,800 volunteers who between them can translate into 190 languages. Mrs Fortescue told the meeting about the importance of vital information being available in the right language at the right time and gave examples relating to medical treatment in humanitarian situations.

President of the Slough, Windsor and Eton club Jackie Paling welcomed 50 members and guests. They included Soroptimists from Bedford, Thames Valley and Central and South West London.

Mrs Paling thanked all those who had contributed to the day and she presented a basket of flowers to member Angela Leslie, who works at Dorney Lake and had overseen the arrangements.
