A MAN was punched and kicked to the ground before being robbed on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old was walking through Clewer Fields alleyway, off Clarence Road, at around 10.10pm when two men tugged a brown leather record bag off his shoulder.

The two men, described as black, between 18 and 25-years-old, around 6ft to 6ft 3ins, and slim, then punched and kicked the victim to the ground before running off.

A passer-by and the victim chased the men and the one carrying the bag ran past the Vansittart Arms and the Bexley Arms towards Clarence Road. The other ran down Albert Street. The bag was dropped and nothing was stolen.

Both men are described as wearing loose, baggy clothing and either a hood or baseball caps.

Det Con Reese Williams, investigating the incident, said: "I am keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the men running away, or recognises their description.

"I am also particularly keen to speak to the passer-by who chased the offender with the victim, as he may have information which could help greatly with the investigation.

"He is white, in his mid-thirties to early forties, about 5ft 11ins to 6ft, large build, with short blondish hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and running shorts over a pair of cycling shorts."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
