£5m waterways bid a step closer
AMBITIOUS plans to install a 2km 'ring' of waterways around Maidenhead will be discussed by the Royal Borough planning committee.
The £5m proposals were submitted by the Maidenhead Waterways Restoration Group (MWRG) in August last year after members spent four years devising the scheme.
Councillor Christine Bateson, cabinet member for planning and partnerships, said: "The council has been very supportive of the MWRG's ambition to bring back water into the town centre and, indeed, it is a key part of the Maidenhead Area Action Plan.
"However, the application itself now must go through the due planning process and be determined on its merits by the panel."
The council has offered £1,000 in compensation to MWRG to apologise for the delay in bringing the complex plans to committee.
The council aims to process planning applications in just 16 weeks but the waterways plan has taken 10 months to get on the agenda.
Cllr Bateson added: "A great deal of work has gone into the plans and all of us who are deeply involved in the rejuvenation of Maidenhead await the decision with considerable interest."
The plans will be considered by the Maidenhead Development Control panel, at the town hall, on Wednesday,
June 13.
