A BIG Society project at one of the borough's best loved nature centres has been launched.

The Braywick Nature Centre, in Hibbert Road is set to benefit from a five year partnership between the Royal Borough and national environmental charity Groundwork Thames Valley.

The charity has now begun management of the centre which should reduce operating costs and provide volunteering opportunities.

Councillor Simon Dudley, cabinet mem ber for adult and community services, said: "We are on the brink of a new era at Braywick, with the added advantage of saving on the running costs which is always good news for council taxpayers."

Richard Pollard, of Groundwork and the new development manager for Braywick, said: "It is an honour to be taking over the reigns of Braywick. We are looking forward to working in partnership with the Royal Borough to grow the services and volunteering opportunities that have already made Braywick a unique and successful Big Society hub."

Groundwork hope to invite the borough's schools to get involved with the centre as well as harbouring plans for a new cafe.
