MOTORISTS on the M4 motorway are facing serious delays after an accident caused both carriageways to be closed down.

The accident happened around 4.15pm, and although the cause is still unconfirmed, it is believed that one car spun across all three lanes after clipping the left hand barrier.

Witnesses have also suggested that the driver of that car was pulled from his vehicle by another driver.

The motoway is shut between junctions eight and 10 and traffic heading east towards London is backed up to Wokingham at Junction 10 and is expected to be closed until 8.30pm.

The Highways Agency expects the westbound carriageway to re-open at around 6.30pm.
