A HUSHED and attentive audience listened in wonderment as schools competed in a public speaking competition.
Brigidine School, in Kings Road completed a clean sweep at the Rotary Club of Windsor St George's annual competition, taking home both the Best Team award and Best Speaker prize.
Hattie Audear scooped the individual prize in recognition of her moving speech on the effects of severe autism, from which her brother Rupert suffers.
The Brigidine team will now represent Windsor in the district final in High Wycombe on Thursday, March 8.
Judith Diment, a former president of the Rotary Club, was impressed by the standard of speaking.
Mrs Diment said: "I thought all the teams were brilliant but the Brigidine did edge it, though. They delivered a very confident and professional performance. They also worked together as a team very well."
Eight teams took part in the event at Dedworth Middle School on Tuesday last week and 600 children have taken part across the Thames Valley district. If successful at the district final, the girls will win a place at the national final at Glyndwr University, in Wrexham, north Wales.
