Pub apologises for 'distasteful' murder fund

WINDSOR Pub Company has apologised for any offence caused by a Justin Bieber 'murder fund' placed on its bar this week.
The Horse And Groom, in Castle Hill, posted a picture of their tongue-in-cheek tip jar on their Facebook page on Sunday night, where it remained until yesterday, but the popular pub's parent company was unaware of the initiative.
A statement sent to The Observer this afternoon said: "Everyone concerned would like to apologise for the unintentional distress caused by a recent staff error in judgement.
"Without our knowledge, staff put this notice up, which they believed was harmless fun, but fully understand that not everyone would take this view.
"We wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused.
"This was done without authorisation and the matter is being looked into and dealt with through our internal company procedures."
The Observer reported earlier today that some staff saw it as a bit of harmless fun but Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough, councillor Colin Rayner, disagreed.
He said: "I think it is very distasteful. I have got young girls and promoting a murder fund for anybody is wrong. If it said 'donate if you don't like Justin Bieber clubs' then that could be okay, but this is wrong."

Report commentI've been a long-time and loyal customer of the Windsor pub co as well as being a long-time resident of Windsor and this Dambing article, stirred up by deputy mayor Colin Rayner is quite upsetting. I've never heard of Mr Rayner let alone ever seen him. Sorry Mr Rayner, but you don't get to appoint yourself high overlord of Windsor and tell people what's wrong and what's right. What next? Is he going to campaign to have stand up comedy banned from Windsor in case it offends people ? I personally will continue to proudly visit the horse and groom. Mr Rayner won't be getting my vote in the next local election, and likely lose the votes from the local punters too.

Report commentUp until now, I have always had faith in the Royal Observer and the articles it has published, but oh dear....this article is what I call ' scraping the barrel' . As a resident of the Royal Borough myself, I enjoy nothing more that spending an evening in the Horse and Groom, along with it's welcoming staff. I would like Councillor Rayner ( or whoever this person is) to explain where the boundaries are going to be drawn in terms of what will and will not offend individuals?? I shall continue to support the Horse and Groom and all of it's staff, but I cannot say the same for the RBO or Mr Raynor.
