A 'MURDER fund' promoting the assassination of Canadian superstar Justin Bieber is proving popular with punters.

The tongue-in-cheek tip jar has reportedly increased donations to the Horse And Groom staff's personal fund which has been placed on the bar since the weekend.

The fundraising drive was promoted on the Windsor pub's Facebook group on Sunday night with the accompanying message: "We do not support assassination attempts on any juvenile pop stars, but should you wish to donate..."

Horse And Groom barmaid, 21-year-old Jess Hunter, said it was all a bit of harmless fun: "It's going well. One of our staff saw it in America and was inspired. We are getting a really good response from customers who are finding it funny."

But angering the self-styled 'Beliebers' could be a risky business to get into, with more than 17m fans following the teenage sensation on Twitter.

Responding to the tip jar on a Justin Bieber forum, Mrs-Bieber-Love posted: "Why the hell would anyone wanna kill Justin Bieber?!"

Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough, Councillor Colin Rayner, joined the chorus of disapproving voices and said the jar went "too far".

Councillor Rayner said: "I think it is very distasteful. I have got young girls and promoting a murder fund for anybody is wrong. If it said 'donate if you don't like Justin Bieber clubs' then that could be okay, but this is wrong."

Manager of the Horse and Groom, in Castle Hill and owned by Windsor pub company, Bronwyn Kemp, said: "It is not serious. We had an American lady who came in with her daughter and asked what it was because her daughter was scared. I explained it was my staff's terrible sense of humour and it wasn't real."
