LIBRARIES across Windsor and Slough hosted a day packed full of fictional frolics and treasure treats to mark National Libraries Day on Saturday.

At Windsor Library, in Bachelors Acre, a fancy dress competition and storytime was held for youngsters but staff were not afraid to pin their colours to the wall too.

Windsor Library supervisor, Maggie Smith, pulled out her Mad Hatter's costume to wow the kids and was joined by two soldiers from the Household Cavalry to judge the competition.

Mrs Smith said: "We had a brilliant turn out and the children really enjoyed having the soldiers with us showing them all their gear. It was a lot of fun.

"We had a lot of new visitors too so it was good to increase people's awareness of what we can offer. Some have already been back since."

Britwell Library, in Wentworth Avenue, hosted a treasure hunt for children wanting to learn a little more about the library with prizes including a yo-yo, bendy pencils and colouring books.

Youngsters were also invited to pick out their favourite books which were then put together to create a display.
