THE Lions Club of Windsor will be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee by embarking on a marathon row from Reading to Windsor.
MP for Maidenhead, Theresa May, has signed up to join the Lions in the row for one leg in the Royal Thamesis, a royal state rowing barge, which will launch from Reading on Friday, June 8, and end at Windsor Castle three days later.
Windsor Lions will team up with the Lions from Maidenhead, Burnham, Henley, Wokingham and Reading during the row and other special guests have also been sounded out.
Windsor Lion Harry Purchase said: "It is such an important year and it is the club's way of recognising the Jubilee.
"We have extended invites to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Zara Phillips to join us in the barge, so we will wait and see."
Money raised from the event will be donated to SportsAble, formerly WAMDSAD, and the Lions are appealing for potential sponsors to come forward.
A similar event took place in 2005 but this year is destined to be a bigger affair, combining the 60th anniversary of The Queen's reign with the 50th year of the Lions Club of Windsor, 95 years of Lions Clubs around the world and the 2012 Paralympics.
Mr Purchase added: "I steered the barge last time and it was a great experience joining with fellow Lions."
