SPECIALIST: Dr David Crawford is appearing on Sky1's Obese: A Year to Save My Life.
A WINDSOR surgeon will appear on national television highlighting the trials and tribulations of tackling obesity.
David Crawford, a consultant plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon at Windsor BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital, features in the journey of Jack Gorny, who is referred to Dr Crawford to surgically correct his gynecomastia, or 'man boobs'.
The Sky1 programme, Obese: A Year To Save My Life, is being shown on Monday nights at 9pm and follows nine people aiming to lose half their body weight.
Dr Crawford said: "Many men keep this type of condition to themselves, making it tough to cope with and also difficult to seek help. They don't like to speak to their partners or families and would prefer to suffer in silence than have their problem treated.
"Jack's story has been a great way to raise awareness of gynaecomastia and the treatment available for it. It has been a great pleasure to help Jack markedly improve his quality of life and if other patients are able to learn from his experience then all of this has been very worthwhile." Executive director at the hospital, Paul McPartlan, said: "Everyday at our hospital, we see the devastating impact obesity can have on people's health and quality of life.
"The brave participants have undergone intense diet and exercise regimes during the course of their year, so it was hugely important that they have trained medical experts on hand to monitor their progress and ensure their wellbeing as they undertook this life-changing journey."
