IT IS full steam ahead for an ambitious £1m fundraising drive for prostate cancer, which was launched in Windsor on Saturday.
Ascot resident Alan Carr, who was awarded an MBE in 2010 for his charity work, will join Nigel Lewis-Baker, 66, in a gruelling 1,000 mile trek from John O'Groats to Land's End - the first in a series of fundraisers.
The appeal was kicked off at The Guildhall by Mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Asghar Majeed, who unveiled plans to promote Prostate Project's research - which Mr Carr said is on the edge of a breakthrough. A world-class research centre, based in Guildford, is also planned.
Mr Carr, who heads up the newly-formed Berkshire branch, added: "Us guys don't talk about these things. When you compare the awareness levels of prostate cancer to breast cancer, there's a massive difference."
The pair are due to set-off from John O'Groats on Wednesday, March 21 and Cllr Majeed will lace up his walking boots for the Bradford section of the trek.
The pair are expecting to complete 20 miles a day and aim to reach Land's End on Thursday, May 17. To donate, visit www.lovetrain.org.uk
