THAMES Valley Police is asking residents to keep their eyes open after 10 manhole covers were stolen from a road in Old Windsor.

Burfield Road residents reported the manhole covers, which are made of metal, as stolen on Saturday last week.

Jeffrey Pick, Thames Valley Police neighbourhood watch administrator for the Royal Borough, has called for residents to remain vigilant as this type of theft becomes more common.

He said: "We had this in the Waltham area last year and it was quite serious because some of them were in the road.

"The thieves were wearing yellow jackets so nobody reported it.

"We haven't had that for some time, but things must be getting desperate. Imagine how dangerous that is at night for drivers."

Mr Pick added: "Everyone keep their eyes open for any missing manhole covers and report it to the borough immediately.

"It is just so dangerous."
