Future of Skills Centre unclear
SPECULATION is rife that the future of an 'invaluable' vocational training centre is under threat.
Windsor Boys' School has refused to comment on rumours the Skills Centre in Vale Road will be closed next year.
Talks of the centre's future come only a year after the school in Maidenhead Road announced cuts would have to be made to reduce its deficit of more than £350,000.
A concerned parent, who did not want to be named, said: "I think it is absolutely disgraceful. It is an invaluable resource and lots of kids have gained qualifications.
"It's so brilliant there and my son has really excelled there. I feel so upset by it because a lot of kids won't have this opportunity."
Last year, David Simpson, chairman of the board of governors at Windsor Boys' School, told The Observer spending £80,000 to establish the centre added to the debt and they were looking to share the costs of running the facility with other schools.
He added closing the facility would be a 'tragedy' as it gets young people into work.
