ILLEGAL fly-tippers face being tackled by a council double team.

Deputy mayor, councillor Colin Rayner, who owns Berkyn Manor Farm and manages 20 areas of farmland across the county, said he deals on average with one case of fly-tipping every day and there is a growing financial incentive for organised criminals to move rubbish from one place to another.

Mr Rayner pays £800 a month to have waste collected and taken to landfill legally and the increasing cost means opportunist money-makers are offering landowners cheaper deals to remove rubbish illegally.

Speaking to The Observer, Mr Rayner said: "We have an incident every day. It can be someone chucking stuff out of a car boot, commercial waste or the organised crime when they drive in, smash fences and chuck out all sorts. We find washing machines, fridges and all kinds of things.

"The council are working very hard to combat it. I just think there should be more joint tasks with the police. They need to be stopping vans driving along country roads to check if they have a certificate granted from the Environment Agency to carry waste. It is a criminal offence if you do not have a licence."

The Royal Borough teamed up with Buckinghamshire County Council's designated Waste Partnership before Christmas to help tackle the problem. Nick Davis, senior street care officer at the Royal Borough, said: "It is very difficult to stop it from happening because quite often these fly-tippers are indiscriminate. They happen at various times of the day or night. The council is extremely good at removing fly tipping. We normally do it within 48 hours."

Mr Rayner also expressed concern over the prospect of people fly-tipping around Dorney Lake during the Olympics. However Mr Davis added: "When it comes to the Olympics we will be ready. We have been sitting on the joint Olympic Group with South Bucks so I am sure it will be discussed and guarded against."
