Operation Tipple catches 100 drunk motorists
MORE than 100 motorists were caught drink driving in Berkshire over the festive season.
Thames Valley Police set up Operation Tipple in an attempt to crack down on the number of people getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol and between December 1, and January 1, 120 drivers were found to be over the limit - exactly the same number of people caught during Christmas 2010.
Across the Thames Valley, 38 more drivers were caught this year compared to 2010, with 299 drivers arrested.
Supt Chris Brown, Head of Roads Policing, said: "It is disappointing to see a rise in the number of people who are still not prepared to accept the dangers posed by drink driving.
"A police officer has the power to stop any vehicle and once a police officer suspects the driver has been drinking, he will test the driver.
"Although Operation Tipple finished on January 1, we will continue to pursue those who choose to drink and drive and put other road users at risk.
"Clearly the message is that if you drink and drive you can expect to get caught and receive a driving ban.
" The message is simple - If you've been drinking, don't drive. It's not worth the risk."
