WINDSOR will be the setting for a state visit from Qatar this year.

Buckingham Palace has announced The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have invited Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and his consort, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned to visit Windsor Castle from October 26 to 28.

Mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Catherine Bursnall, said she was looking forward to her first state visit as Mayor and issuing a warm borough welcome to the special guests.

She said: “Windsor is not only an iconic backdrop for state occasions that command world attention but it offers a wholehearted welcome to all visitors.

“I am sure the Emir of Qatar and his consort will be delighted by their reception and we just hope for good weather so that everyone can enjoy it.”

Preparations are being made for the welcome, followed by a carriage procession through the streets to the castle.
