GUESTS at a private party found themselves at the centre of a major rescue operation involving an off-duty nurse, paramedics, firefighters and the air ambulance.

The two-hour drama unfolded after a man was found collapsed on a remote towpath near the River Thames.

An off-duty nurse out mountain biking with a friend discovered the 51-year-old in bushes near Bray Lock.

Due to the remote location, a paramedic in a car was sent to meet the nurse and help the man who was described as being ‘pale, clammy and disorientated’.

Paramedic Marc Lister said: “I set off on foot down the towpath on the north bank of the Thames after the two mountain bikers with my response bag on my back, my paramedic bag in front, entonox (pain relieving gas and air) over one shoulder, an oxygen bag over the other, a defibrillator in one hand and a drugs bag in the other.”
