HUNDREDS of brave soldiers preparing for deployment in Afghanistan will be marching through the town.

The 1st Battalion Irish Guards will march from Victoria Barracks to St George’s Church for a service of thanksgiving on Wednesday, September 1.

The parade will leave the barracks in Sheet Street at 10am and pass hundreds of well-wisher, who are expected to line the streets, before entering the chapel at Windsor Castle.

Following the service, the soldiers, who will deploy to Afghanistan at the end of September, will travel back to the barracks.

A number of roads will be closed between 10am and 12pm for the parade. The roads affected will include Sheet Street, High Street, Castle Hill, Park Street, St Albans and Thames Street.
