DONATIONS have been pouring in to support the quirky fundraising efforts of a Slough man to raise cash for a Windsor charity.

Former Observer reporter Andy van Terheyden has launched a battle against his younger brother Rob in the style of Nintendo’s video game Super Mario Brothers in aid of the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

The brothers, right, who have taken on the identities of Italian plumbers Luigi and Mario for three humiliating challenges, have already raised more than £600.

Andy, 28, said: “To see so many donations come in so quickly has been brilliant. I’m thrilled at how generous people have been - in just a fortnight we’ve flown past our initial target of £500.”

The Penn Wood Primary school teacher will be interviewed by Susanne Courtney on BBC Radio Berkshire’s Afternoon Show on Bank holiday Monday about his charity project.

Andy, of Upton Park, said: “I’m really looking forward to the interview and seeing how it all works 'behind the scenes’. If just one person out there hears me, looks at the website and is moved enough to donate, then it will have been more than worthwhile. I’ve been asked to select a few songs to be played too which will be fun.”
