YEARS of searching for a new home for a popular dance school in Windsor have come to an end.

The Heidi Rhodes School of Dance will be officially opening at Ascot House in Dedworth Road on Saturday, September 4, after a six-year hunt for the perfect location.

Headteacher Heidi Rhodes said: “It’s a bit surreal, but very exciting. I got the keys three weeks ago and have been really busy decorating. The venue is absolutely perfect.”

The school, which started out in a converted garage before hiring halls at local churches and community centres, now boasts more than 300 students at classes in Windsor, Datchet and Englefield Green.

Five years ago Mrs Rhodes found a venue in Goswell Hill, but was refused permission to change use of the warehouse to a dance studio by council planners.

The mother-of-two has since been searching for the perfect location and her dream of opening her own dance studio has now become a reality.

She said: “It was my husband who found it for me. He is a painter and decorator and was called there for an estimate. When he got there he phoned me up and said ‘quick get down her now I think this place will be excellent for you’. It was perfect, two studios the same size, great layout and location.”

The studio will be officially opened by BBC1’s So You Think You Can Dance finalist Gavin Tsang at noon.

There will then be free dance classes from 2pm to celebrate the opening including a class with Gavin.

Most classes will be held at the new venue with classes for young students still being held at the sites in Datchet and Englefield Green.
