Firefighters were called to a blaze at a derelict old people's home in Punt Hill.

Both engines from Maidenhead headed out at 2pm and battled an eight tonne burning pile of wood and rubbish for more than three hours this afternoon (Sunday).

Firefighter Steve Windsor said: "There was lots of smoke and it was quite dangerous because it was a big pile of wood, rubbish and steel girders so we couldn't get stuck in. Eventually the contractors arrived and used a digger to flatten it out so we could deal wih it. "
