Land train and jazz event pulled

WINDSORIANS and visitors will lose out this summer after it was revealed two major attractions will not return.

A pilot scheme which saw a land train introduced last year to ferry people through the town to Windsor Castle has been pulled by events company PWR Events. Windsor Town Manager Paul Roach said the company had decided that neither were financially viable.

He said: "The land train was only a pilot scheme but was a major investment for PWR, more than 9,000 people actually used it, which is no small number however the company decided it wasn't financially viable. Times are hard for most businesses not just in Windsor and the company is looking at all its events."

In a second blow the popular Jazz and Beer festival which was held in Alexander Gardens has also been shelved. Last year more than 4,000 people enjoyed a tipple and music in the park and the event was even attended by the town's MP Adam Afriyie.

Mr Roach said he was particularly disappointed that the festival would not be returning and insisted that he and his team did everything they could to try and persuade the company to reconsider.

He added: "The jazz and beer festival was probably one of the most successful as a new event to the gardens and it had a lot going for it. We did try very hard to change their mind but they said they can't justify the money they have to spend on the event."

Mr Roach went onto say that he and the Windsor Town Partnership would continue to work on bringing new and exciting events to the town.

What Windsor needs is a real beer and music festival hosted not by some third-party company but by the local pubs and companies in Windsor in partnership. We have so much great live music in Windsor yet it largely gets ignored. I would love to see a summer event over a long weekend involving all the pubs in Windsor and Eton, including events in Alexandra gardens.
