SIX people have been arrested in a police crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour.

Extra neighbourhood officers and Police Community Support Officers from across Windsor and Eton were deployed to Dedworth last week as part of Operation Lamprey.

Throughout the week high-visibility patrols were carried out across the neighbourhood in a bid to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.

More than 20 people were stopped and searched by the team and six people arrested in connection with offences including drug possession, possession of offensive weapons and dangerous driving.

Officers also gathered intelligence about drug activity in the area.

Sgt Rob Dalton, who led the operation, said: "The main aim of Operation Lamprey was to tackle serious acquisitive crime (burglary, robbery and car crime) and anti-social behaviour, which continues to be a nuisance to local residents.

"Car crime has been a particular concern recently, with people still leaving possessions in their cars despite our repeated warnings.

"We are working hard to tackle crime in the area, but some residents are inadvertently funding drug habits by leaving their homes or cars insecure.

"However, time is running out for these criminals - we are planning more operations like this and will continue to work with residents and our partners to make the community even safer."

Every offender arrested for theft related offences is drug-tested and has the opportunity to engage with the drug rehabilitation team.

Anyone with information about crime or anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood, or who has any other concerns, is asked police on 08458 505505. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
