RESIDENTS, businesses and motorists using Thames Maidenhead Bridge are being invited to learn about the essential maintenance work to be carried out on the iconic river bridge.

Letters have been distributed to residents who live close to the bridge as well as local businesses, advising them of the forthcoming work and inviting them to the Open Day at Maidenhead Rowing Club nezt Wednesday (17/03) from 3pm until 8pm, when councillors and highways officers will be available to provide information and answer questions about the scheme.

The essential maintenance work on the 300-year-old Grade One listed building - funded jointly by the Royal Borough and Buckinghamshire County Council - will see the carriageway resurfaced, footpaths re-paved and the stonework on the bridge arches renewed over a period of up to nine weeks, starting on Tuesday, April 6.

To minimise disruption the majority of the work has been scheduled for off-peak daytime hours and during the night as necessary when traffic is at a minimum.

Single lane traffic will be operated by traffic lights while the work is in progress, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times to one of the footways.

Full closure of the bridge to traffic will only be necessary for a maximum of six nights at the end of the project when the carriageway is being resurfaced. This has been timed to coincide with the schools' half-term holidays (Monday, May 31 to Saturday, June 5).

For further information about the scheme call the customer service centre information line on 01628 683868.
